Job Description

 

The Credit Controller plays a crucial role in managing the financial health of the organization by ensuring timely and efficient collection of outstanding debts and minimizing credit risk. This role is responsible for monitoring and controlling the company’s credit policies and procedures, assessing the creditworthiness of customers, and developing strategies to mitigate credit-related issues.

Duties & Responsibilities

 

Credit Assessment:

  • Evaluate the creditworthiness of new and existing customers by analysing financial data, credit reports, and payment history.
  • Determine credit limits and terms for customers, in alignment with established policies.

Debt Collection:

  • Monitor accounts receivable to identify invoices that are approaching their due dates.
  • Proactively oversee payment schedules, ensuring customers are well-informed of impending payment responsibilities.
  • Utilize various communication channels to engage customers regarding overdue payments and to amicably resolve payment disputes. In situations where disputes or issues arise, strive to maintain positive customer relations while finding resolutions.
  • Deploy tailored collection strategies and engage in negotiations with customers as the situation demands.
  • Monitor and provide reports on delinquent accounts, and if necessary, escalate issues for resolution.
  • Maintain a comprehensive record of accounts that have exceeded their payment terms.
  • In cases where standard collection efforts prove ineffective, escalate matters appropriately, potentially involving legal or higher-level management teams to address severe delinquencies or disputes.

Credit Policy Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with the company’s credit policies and procedures.
  • Recommend updates and improvements to credit policies based on industry trends and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of customer interactions, payment agreements, and correspondence related to credit control.

Reporting:

  • Generate regular Account Receivable reports and analysis on the status of outstanding debts, aging accounts, and credit risk exposure for management review.
  • Analyse overdue by reason code and provide senior management on the situation and propose concrete action plans.

Customer Relations:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, while diplomatically addressing payment issues.
  • Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to resolve customer concerns and facilitate smoother payment processes.

Risk Mitigation:

  • Identify potential credit risks and propose appropriate measures to minimize financial losses.

Process Improvement:

  • Continuously assess and enhance credit control processes for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Work closely with Divisional and Group Resources to develop automated solutions or reporting platform (e.g., Power BI)

The Individual

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is preferred.
  • More than 8 years of experience in credit control or a related financial role preferably from Oil & Gas industry.
  • Strong understanding of credit principles, financial analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in using financial software and accounting systems such as SAP/Oracle
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant legal regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
